Reserve your vantage point now – Brisbane’s favourite annual fireworks display is back 2021 to light up the night sky in a sound and light spectacular on Saturday 25 September.
Presented by Brisbane Festival and Brisbane City Council, Sunsuper Riverfire 2021 serves as a glittering crescendo to the Festival after COVID-19 forced the pyrotechnic display into hiatus in 2020.
The free, all-ages Sunsuper Riverfire is a highlight of the Brisbane Festival program – which will fill the city with art, music and joy from 3 – 25 September 2021 – and has cemented its standing as the city’s favourite fireworks display.
Sunsuper Riverfire 2021 will light up Brisbane’s skies in a free pyrotechnic event that can be viewed from hundreds of vantage points across the city and choreographed to a specially curated playlist simulcast on Triple M with Channel Nine exclusively broadcasting the popular event live.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the return of Sunsuper Riverfire will once again captivate and delight spectators who cram every vantage point along the city reaches of the Brisbane River.
“It’s a signature, stand-out event for Brisbane which has everyone talking – a wonderful, dazzling night of nights that 500,000 spectators look forward to every year.
“The fireworks and Brisbane Festival are wonderful ways to celebrate the return of spring.”
Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch agreed and said the return of Sunsuper Riverfire will put a smile on so many faces.
“People can start planning now to secure a prime position along the riverside for one of Brisbane’s favourite nights.
“Brisbane Festival 2021 will be a time to celebrate all things Queensland, showcase our home-grown talent and help spread some joy through the power of the arts.”
Lord Mayor of Brisbane Cr Adrian Schrinner said after being scaled back last year due to COVID-19, the community’s anticipation for the firework spectacular was sky-high.
“As Brisbane’s favourite fireworks display, Sunsuper Riverfire is an amazing end to Brisbane Festival and I encourage everyone to pencil Saturday 25 September into their diaries and start planning their favourite viewing spots because we’re expecting bumper crowds.”
Brisbane Festival Artistic Director Louise Bezzina said the success of 2020’s Brisbane Festival – one of the first major events held in Australia post-pandemic – provided the trust and confidence to safely bring back the iconic, large-scale Sunsuper Riverfire.
“Sunsuper Riverfire has been a wholly inclusive and widely accessible part of Brisbane Festival’s program since 1998 and while some changes are necessary to ensure it is a COVID Safe event, it will once again surprise and delight residents and visitors alike.”
