Stories worth celebrating, designed to be kept.

For 25 years, Aviation Australia’s people, achievements and stories have helped to shape its legacy. To celebrate the milestone, we were tasked with creating a 44-page commemorative magazine that honours the organisation’s past, while looking boldly ahead to the future of the aviation industry.

We led the project from concept to completion, developing the magazine’s structure, interviewing over 30 participants and writing every article. We presented a creative concept and detailed pagination plan, mapping out each story, identifying imagery opportunities and highlighting where additional content was needed.

Using Aviation Australia’s new brand guidelines as our foundation, we developed a mood board to establish the magazine’s visual direction before rolling out the full design. Thoughtful use of brand colours, typography and the introduction of a complementary accent font gave the publication its own personality while remaining true to the refreshed identity.

The result was a considered, story-led publication that brought 25 years of ambition and innovation to life while remaining accessible to readers beyond the aviation sector.

Launched at a special anniversary event held among the aircraft within Aviation Australia’s hangar, the magazine created a lasting record of the people and moments that have shaped the organisation’s story so far.

Deliverables

Editorial planning and pagination

Developing the creative concept and full 44-page pagination plan, mapping article themes, story flow, imagery requirements and content gaps before production began.

Interviews and copywriting

Interviewing key participants and writing every article, capturing personal perspectives, milestones and achievements to tell the story of Aviation Australia’s 25 years.

Creative direction and design

Developing a visual mood board and designing the complete magazine, translating the new brand guidelines into an engaging editorial style with considered typography, colour and imagery.

Print-ready artwork

Preparing the complete 44-page publication for print, refining layouts and checking final artwork to deliver a polished commemorative magazine ready for its launch at the anniversary event.

Winning tactics

Thumbs Up

Putting people at the heart.

Aruga led with interviews and personal stories, giving the people behind Aviation Australia’s achievements a voice. This created a more meaningful celebration of its history than a timeline of milestones alone.

Peace Sign

Planning before designing.

Aruga mapped the entire magazine before moving into design, identifying content gaps, imagery needs and story opportunities early. This gave everyone a clear direction and helped the finished publication feel cohesive from cover to cover.

Ok

Giving the new brand room to shine.

Aruga worked within the newly launched brand guidelines while introducing a complementary accent font to add editorial character. The result felt recognisably on-brand yet distinctive enough to make the anniversary publication feel special.
