Hello Aruga

Visitors can step aboard the world-class OceanXplorer research vessel and become marine scientists in OceanXperience, a new immersive exhibition opening at Queensland Museum Kurilpa on Friday 4 December 2026.

Based on the vessel featured in National Geographic’s OceanXplorers series, the exhibition takes visitors on marine science missions to some of the world’s most remote and under-explored ocean environments.

Created by Flying Fish, OceanXperience brings the OceanXplorer to life through interactive technology, real expedition footage and hands-on challenges that recreate the ship’s critical nerve centres.

You’ll feel the thrill of discovery, directing deep-sea expeditions from Mission Control, charting a course from the ship’s Bridge and launching cutting-edge submersibles from the Sub Hangar.

Analyse marine specimens in the Wet Lab, decode oceanic data in the Dry Lab and discover how scientists investigate some of the world’s least explored environments.

OceanXperience offers a behind-the-scenes look at life aboard a modern research vessel and the science driving our understanding of the world’s oceans.

Queensland Museum Kurilpa CEO Renai Grace said OceanXperience gives visitors the chance to experience the excitement and impact of modern ocean exploration firsthand.

“ OceanXperience puts visitors in the role of a marine scientist. Rather than learning about ocean exploration from the sidelines, they can step aboard the OceanXplorer and take part in the missions, technologies and discoveries shaping our understanding of the oceans. ”
Renai Grace | Queensland Museum Kurilpa CEO

“It’s a rare opportunity to experience life aboard one of the world’s most advanced research vessels and see how science is helping us explore parts of the ocean that remain largely unknown.”

Minister for Education and the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said the Crisafulli Government was proud to support Queensland Museum to deliver exceptional cultural and educational experiences for audiences of all ages.

“ “This immersive exhibition encourages hands on exploration of ocean life, encouraging visitors to discover and engage with science and technology in real working spaces,” Minister Langbroek said. ”
John-Paul Langbroek | Minister for Education and the Arts

“The museum’s presentation of OceanXperience helps deliver on our arts and cultural strategy, Queensland’s Time to Shine, by strengthening Queenslanders’ access to enriching arts and cultural experiences.

“I encourage families, students and marine enthusiasts to dive in and experience OceanXperience for themselves.”
