Experienced hikers can now explore Queensland’s signature walking experience, the Scenic Rim Trail, independently – without carrying a tent or joining a guided group – following the launch of a new 4-day self-guided walking experience.

The latest format introduces a new way to experience the one of the state’s most iconic landscapes, combining a fully independent hike with exclusive access to Scenic Rim Trail’s private hosted accommodation, including all prepared meals, hot showers and comfortable beds each night.

Designed for capable and self-sufficient hikers with strong navigation skills and a high level of fitness, the experience allows guests to navigate the 60-kilometre route at their own pace, while travelling hut-to-hut-style between remote lodges and eco-camps.

Founder Jude Turner said the new offering opens the trail to a group of experienced hikers the business hasn’t previously been able to cater for.

“Until now, we haven’t had an offering for experienced hikers who want to walk independently but don’t want to carry tents, food and overnight gear,” Turner said.

This experience completes our overall offering, opening up the trail to people with strong outdoor skills who value both independence and comfort.

The Scenic Rim Trail traverses 60 kilometres of World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests, passing through subtropical rainforest, open eucalypt forest and mountain ridgelines just 90 minutes from Brisbane.

The new self-guided walk sits alongside Scenic Rim Trail’s established guided experiences, which continue to offer fully supported journeys led by expert guides who share in-depth knowledge of the region’s ecology, history and culture.

Since launching its guided walks in 2009, Scenic Rim Trail has become one of Queensland’s leading ecotourism experiences and the state’s only member of the Great Walks of Australia collection.

The 4-day self-guided walk opens for bookings from 10 June 2026, with set departures currently available monthly and more dates to be released.
